Today's Story Highlights

How to Reinvent E-Commerce Personalization in 2019
You'd be hard pressed to find a tactic more capable of winning and
losing customers than personalization. In the past, bad personalization
has cost businesses three-quarters of a trillion dollars. In the future,
smart personalization could enable businesses to boost their profits by
up to 15 percent. Today, personalization is everywhere -- in B2B, B2C,
e-commerce, SaaS -- the list goes on.

EU Parliament's OK of Online Copyright Rules Fuels Dissent
The European Parliament plenary has adopted the "Directive on Copyright
in the Digital Single Market" by a vote of 348-274 with 36 abstentions.
Member states will have two years to adopt the directive's rules under
their national laws. The directive will require certain online platforms
to establish licensing agreements with rights holders for the use of
copyright-protected content.

Is Your Contact Center Ruining Your CX?
While CRM software is a vital tool, CRM itself is really a discipline:
It's the cultivation of the customer relationship and the management of
customer data to create better experiences for the customer and to
generate better results for the business. The CRM application doesn't
exist on its own in many organizations -- or in many vendors' suites of
products, for that matter.

T-Mobile's Home Broadband Carrot
Not long ago, T-Mobile COO Mike Sievert said the company would start
selling a wireless home broadband service. Now, it looks as though it
has begun a pilot program of invited users. However, there is an
important catch with respect to this new service: the motive behind it.
Sievert made it clear that growth with this new service will be possible
only with a Sprint merger. That's too bad.

AI-Powered Inventory Management: A Make-or-Break Tool for Retailers
Retail is facing battles on all fronts. Up against Amazon's streamlined
operations on one side, and a higher demand for flawless customer
service and experience on the other, it's either think or sink for many.
However, AI has thrown some early adopters a lifeline. As Amazon has
proven with its stranglehold on the retail industry, online shopping is
unquestionably the future.

Today's Story Highlights

FTC Eyeballs ISPs' Data Privacy Practices
The United States Federal Trade Commission has announced an
investigation into the privacy policies, procedures and practices of
seven Internet broadband providers and related entities: AT&T Inc., AT&T
Mobility LLC, Comcast Cable Communications doing business as Xfinity,
Google Fiber Inc., T-Mobile US Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., and
Cello Partnership dba Verizon Wireless.

Apple Wants Its Credit Card in Your Digital Wallet
Apple has announced a virtual credit card built into the wallet app on
iPhones. Apple Card sports a number of features aimed at helping
consumers lead a healthier financial life. "With our hardware, software
and services, we think that Apple is uniquely positioned to make the
most significant change in the credit card experience in 50 years," said
Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Apple Presents Its Spin on Entertainment and News
Apple announced a raft of new services, including original TV
programming and news and magazine offerings, at an event held at the
Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. The Apple TV+ service,
which will launch in the fall, already has a number of high-profile
shows in its lineup, including Amazing Stories , a science fiction
anthology produced by Steven Spielberg.
http://www.technewsworld.com/story/85918.html

Telegram Provides Nuclear Option to Erase Sent Messages
Telegram Messaging has introduced a new feature that allows user to
delete not only their own comments, but also those of all other
participants in the message thread on all devices that received it.
Although the move is meant to bolster privacy, it's likely to spark some
controversy. Telegram, a cloud-based instant messaging and VoIP service,
is similar to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

The Future According to Nvidia
I spent last week at Nvidia's GPU Technology Conference, and I expect
this will be the last year it will go by that name. The company has
evolved significantly during the last decade with robotics, AI, and even
complete workstations and servers taking it well beyond its GPU roots.
However, Nvidia doesn't yet have an effective way to convey how all the
things it is doing will change the world.

The Morning After: Apple's keyboard apology and Samsung folding

It's Thursday, March 28, 2019.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Samsung’s bending its new phone to prove a point, the retro-game wave has finally revisited the Sega Genesis and Apple isn’t doing anything (yet) about MacBook keyboard complaints.

(View in browser.)

Weird flex, but OK.

Watch Samsung bend the Galaxy Fold hundreds of times

Watch Samsung bend the Galaxy Fold hundreds of times

Samsung is attempting to put to rest doubts over the Samsung Galaxy Fold's durability by revealing how each device is tested. The company released a video on Wednesday that shows its devices undergoing a factory stress-test, where a line-up of brand new Samsung Galaxy Folds fold, and then unfold, and then fold again. The only thing we can’t judge from here is whether the gap that remains when it’s folded, or a seam that may form down the center, are potential flaws buyers will be able to live with.

Sega CD add-ons work, but the 32X doesn’t.

The Analogue Mega SG wins the retro gaming console war

The Analogue Mega SG wins the retro gaming console war

On paper, the Mega SG is almost a copy-and-paste of Analogue's last console, doing for the Genesis what the Super NT did for the SNES. But while Nintendo fans have dozens of options to play the company's classics, Sega diehards don't. The Mega SG brings the stuff we expect from Analogue -- near-perfect emulation, HDMI and wireless controller support.

Some claim the thin design is weak and prone to getting jammed by debris.

Apple acknowledges keyboard problems with recent MacBooks

Apple acknowledges keyboard problems with recent MacBooks

In response to a Wall Street Journal piece highlighting ongoing reports of problems, an Apple spokesman said the company was aware of a "small number of users" whose butterfly keyboards were having issues, and that it was "sorry" for the problems. It still maintains that the “vast majority” of users are fine and said anyone having issues should contact customer support. No recall, no repair program, no indication that a redesigned keyboard is on the way in future models.

Boeing explains its 737 Max software update

After an update is applied, the anti-stall Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) will now compare the data from both of the 737's angle-of-attack sensors, rather than relying on one. If there's a disagreement of 5.5 degrees or more, MCAS won't kick in. The software will also reduce its input during an incident and won't apply so much input to the stabilizers that the crew can't counteract it.

Characters like Brick, Claptrap, Moxxi and Tiny Tina pop up among other clues.

‘ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove’ is more Diet Coke than fine wine

According to Jamie Rigg, some memories are better being just that. Even with the potential of procedurally generated layouts, its design becomes frustrating with obligatory exploration and micro-rewards that don’t build to anything. ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove delivers on the promise of something more chilled and retro than current era battle-royale shooters, but not everything improves with age.
