It's Monday, November 11, 2019.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Before you get your week started, consider taking a look at Mercury’s transit this morning -- it might be your last chance to see it for quite a while. Also, the Halo TV series is finally in production, and Apple’s Mac Pro made an unexpected cameo in Calvin Harris’ Instagram story.

(View in browser.)

This is your last chance to see it from North or South America until 2049.

How to safely watch Mercury pass in front of the Sun today at 7:35 AM ET

How to safely watch Mercury pass in front of the Sun today at 7:35 AM ET Mercury is about to take a rare trip between the Sun and the Earth, giving viewers around the world a rare and dramatic glimpse of the solar system's innermost planet. If you're planning to check it out, however, you'll need to take great care. If Mercury could talk (and it is the communication planet in astrological terms), it would say "Don't look directly at me as I cross the Sun." You'll need a telescope or binoculars fitted with a special solar filter -- no, solar eclipse glasses won’t do the trick.

Realistically you can expect around 25 minutes of flight time per charge.

DJI Mavic Mini review: A tiny drone with big ambitions

DJI Mavic Mini review: A tiny drone with big ambitions According to James Trew, “For the curious, the blogger, the casual photographer or even the family, the Mavic Mini makes a lot of sense. At $399, it's the same price as something like a GoPro, making it accessible and less of a commitment than the $900+ Mavic Air.” It’s light and pocketable but loses some of the software features DJI reserves for its larger, more expensive flying machines.

More battery power from SEMA.

Chevy's electric E-10 concept mimics the sound of a V8

Chevy's electric E-10 concept mimics the sound of a V8

Chevy has unveiled this E-10 Concept hot rod that looks like a slammed vintage pickup truck (the 1962 C-10) but packs thoroughly modern EV tech, with battery packs borrowed from a Bolt EV. It's powered by a double stack of concept electric crate motors, which provides an estimated 450HP or enough to reach 60MPH in 5 seconds and obtain projected quarter mile times in the "high 13 second range."

The truck has a three-speaker sound emulator that mimics the two banks of a V8 engine in the back and induction in the front. It automatically adjusts to gear changes and can even emulate different engines that include a generic V8 as well as two versions of the LS7 Z28.

Six years later.

Production is finally starting on the 'Halo' TV series

Production is finally starting on the 'Halo' TV series The Halo series still isn't slated to hit screens until early 2021, and the inaugural season has been cut to nine episodes instead of ten. The Xbox One's entire lifecycle will have passed (plus two core Halo games) between the announcement and the moment you can sit down and watch.

It’s getting closer.

Calvin Harris already has the new Mac Pro

Calvin Harris already has the new Mac Pro DJ Calvin Harris has posted multiple Instagram Stories showing that he already has Apple's workstation as part of his music production setup. He didn't talk about it, to no one's surprise, but this suggests Apple is comfortable enough with the state of the Mac Pro to seed it to big-name creators.

It's Saturday, November 09, 2019.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Welcome to your weekend! The Engadget Podcast is diving into the streaming wars ahead of Disney+ opening its doors next week, and we’ve got a review of the Beats Solo Pro headphones. Also, there’s a big change coming to Instagram, and we’ll look at some highlight stories from the past week like the Mustang Lithium EV and Microsoft’s new Office app for iOS and Android.

(View in browser.)

One big problem.

Beats Solo Pro review

Beats Solo Pro review Billy Steele calls these “Beats most impressive set of headphones to date.” With excellent sound, an improved design, hands-free Siri support and solid active noise cancellation, what could go wrong? Unfortunately, getting the tight seal needed was uncomfortable enough that he could only use them for about a half-hour at a time.

How much is too much?

The Engadget Podcast: The streaming wars have begun

The Engadget Podcast: The streaming wars have begun This week on the Engadget Podcast, Devindra and Cherlynn explore why Apple, Disney and HBO are launching their own streaming services and what it all means for consumers. Are they actually worth subscribing to? Is there simply too much to watch?

Row your own gears in an EV.

This electric Mustang packs a manual transmission

Ford has partnered with Webasto on a Mustang Lithium project car (no, it's not the Mustang-like SUV) for SEMA 2019 that mates a monstrous 900-plus horsepower electric motor with a six-speed, drag-race-ready Getrag transmission.

Like the Porsche Taycan, the Mustang Lithium has an 800-volt battery system that delivers more performance (up to a megawatt of electrical discharge) even as it reduces weight and heat. You can fine-tune the output on a 10.4-inch touchscreen, too, choosing between torque settings that range from a modest "valet" through to "beast."

Instagram's push to hide 'Like' counts comes to the US next week

Instagram's push to hide 'Like' counts comes to the US next week In a move that Instagram claims it’s making to improve how users feel, it has been testing taking away the ability to see how many likes posts by other people have gotten. After rolling out the change in several countries around the world, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that next week, it is going to test the change in the US

Johnny Cash's powerful voice narrates his life in YouTube's 'The Gift'

Whether it's 2005's Walk The Line or, most recently, Ken Burns' Country Music, it's not hard to find a detailed account of the career of the Man in Black. What many of them don't offer though is Cash's own perspective on his life -- both the highs and the lows. With Emmy-winning director Thom Zimny's new documentary, we get just that.

The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash debuts for free on YouTube on Monday, November 11th at 12PM ET. YouTube Premium subscribers will get access to bonus footage, which includes discussions of how "Walk The Line" came to be, prison shows and more.

You can try it out on Android right now.

Microsoft's new Office app for mobile combines Word, Excel and Powerpoint

Microsoft's new Office app for mobile combines Word, Excel and Powerpoint Instead of grabbing separate apps for Word, Excel and Powerpoint (aka the Office Triforce), Microsoft’s new Office app puts them all together. The Office app also makes better use of your phone's talents, with the ability to take a photo of a document and turn it into an editable Word file on the fly or even do the same with printed-out tables in Excel. It’s available for public testing on Android, while an iOS test group is already full.

Today's Story Highlights

UPS Chalks Up Another Drone Delivery First
UPS has announced the first two revenue-generating residential
deliveries of prescribed medicines to consumers. Its drone delivered the
prescription medications from a CVS pharmacy in Cary, North Carolina, to
a consumer's home, and to a customer in a retirement community. The
drone flew autonomously but was monitored by a remote operator who could
intervene if needed.

Google Pays $2.1 Billion to Get Fit(bit)
Google has inked a deal to buy wearable fitness device maker Fitbit for
$2.1 billion. The acquisition will give Google an immediate leading
position in the wearables market, able to compete against the likes of
Apple and Samsung rather than having to build up market share from
scratch. Fitbit's products are carried in approximately 39,000 retail
stores in more than 100 countries around the world.

Researchers Use Lasers to Hack Smart Speakers
University researchers have discovered a way to issue unauthorized
commands to digital assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, Facebook
Portal and Siri via laser beams. The microphones in devices like smart
speakers, mobile phones and tablets convert sound into electrical
signals, but what the researchers found was that the mics react to light
aimed directly at them, too.

Adobe Max Event Highlights New iPad, iPhone Tools
New products for the iPad and iPhone headlined the opening keynote
presentation at Adobe Max, the company's annual developers conference
held in Los Angeles. Photoshop for the iPad uses Adobe's artificial
intelligence engine, Sensei, to enable new selection functionality. For
example, "Select Subject," a feature of Photoshop for the desktop, will
be available on the tablet version.

Microsoft's Chromium-Based Edge Browser Available as Release Candidate
Along with unveiling its new Edge browser logo, Microsoft announced the
official launch date of its nearly finished Chromium-based Edge browser
and made its Release Candidate available for download immediately. The
latest beta edition of the browser is stable enough for anyone to use,
Microsoft said, and it will help IT admins prepare for the mid-Jan. 15
rollout.
