Internet's Crowds Stunting Its Growth: Trends Report
More than half the world's population -- 3.8 billion people -- have
access to the Internet and that may not be a good thing for business,
according to digital savant Mary Meeker's Internet Trends 2019 report.
Global Internet user growth has slowed to 6 percent year over year, down
from 7 percent, noted the Bond Capital general partner. The Asia-Pacific
region leads in both users and potential.

Are You Gish-Galloping Your Business Toward Disruption?
Recent events have led to many people learning about a long-understood
rhetorical tactic called "Gish galloping." Named after creationist Duane
Gish, it means confronting an opponent with a rapid-fire series of
arguments -- including half-truths, misrepresentations and outright
lies. Confronted with such a BS barrage, the opponent may try to refute
each assertion, which is a losing proposition.

China-US Trade Tension Is Causing Irreparable Damage to High-Tech
While trade disputes between countries are nothing new and seldom are
remembered, the ongoing one between China and the United States may
change the course of the electronics industry going forward. In the
beginning of the dispute proposed tariffs excluded electronics for the
most part. The U.S. even modified some initial proposals to avoid
impacting Apple and other U.S. tech companies.

Fraud Siphons Billions of Ad Cash Into Digital Hole
Fraudsters have been stealing online advertisers blind -- to the tune of
$23 billion, based on a report from Cheq. Indirect economic and social
costs might increase the total to $30 billion. Marketers have been
wasting billions of dollars on digital ads that never reach buyers'
eyes. Up to 30 percent of ads are impacted by fraud that affects 21
trillion online ads each year.

Salesforce and Tableau in Merger
Salesforce has announced an all-stock deal to acquire analytics
powerhouse Tableau Software. Salesforce will pay 1.103 of its shares for
one Tableau share. The deal is expected to finalize by the end of
October, about a month before Dreamforce. A number of questions arise
from this deal. For instance, why do it at all? Why keep the companies
separate, and what will their relationship be like?

Google leaked the Pixel 4

It's Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

We’ve seen a lot of phones leaked on Twitter lately, but Google dropping a pic of its own device months before we expect it to launch is a new twist on the genre. Also, we’re powering through to the final day of E3 2019, and it’s time to talk about Wall TVs.

@GoogleLeaks.

Google just revealed the Pixel 4

Google just revealed the Pixel 4

After a purported render of the Pixel 4 popped up a few days ago, Google took the unusual step of directly leaking a pic of its own next phone. A tweet informed us to “wait until you see what it can do,” and if the rumors are accurate then that could refer to an embedded sensor used for advanced gesture control. For now, we’ll just feast our eyes on its frame and curious square camera array.

Despite incredible battery life, a $300 price makes these tough to recommend.

Jabra Elite 85h review: Noise cancellation to rival Bose and Sony

The Elite 85h is a well-built audio workhorse with amazing battery life and capable ANC, but the overall audio quality isn’t as good as the Sony 1000XM3.

If you call your TV a wall, then it has to be about this size.

Samsung's next The Wall TV can stretch to 292 inches with 8K

Samsung's next The Wall TV can stretch to 292 inches with 8K

The Wall Luxury is an even more ambitious TV designed for the poshest of abodes. It starts at 'just' 73 inches and 1080p, but its MicroLED panels scale all the way to 292 inches and 8K. That's over 24 feet in the diagonal, folks. Samsung hasn't detailed the pricing as we write this, but let's be honest -- if you need to ask, you're probably not the target audience for this behemoth.

Apparently users found the old way confusing.

Google will stop syncing files between Drive and Photos

From July 10th, when you upload files to Drive or Photos, they won't automatically sync to the other service. Likewise, when you delete a photo or video from Drive, it won't be removed from Photos and vice versa.

Should’ve brought the six-button one.

Sega Genesis Mini hands-on: A faithfully clunky controller

This year's E3 is the first time journalists and the public have been able to play with the Genesis Mini, and there are some great games baked in. Highlights include Sonic 2, Castle of Illusion, Shinobi 3, Kid Chameleon and Streets of Rage 2. The only drawback, according to Mat Smith, is that when it comes to the system’s three-button controller, "It feels cheap, lightweight, chunky and... exactly how I remember it."

Time to become a YouTube star. Or Instagram video. Or Tik-Tok.

'Journey to the Savage Planet' is surprisingly relaxing

Plenty of games let you explore an alien world. Few have the same charm and distinctive personality as Journey to the Savage Planet, though.

Typhoon Studios, a Canadian developer comprised of former Ubisoft and Electronic Arts employees, calls its game an "earnest comedy." The team wanted to build a smaller and more light-hearted title that didn't require hundreds of hours to complete. You might play the game for a couple of hours after work, or breeze through most of the quests over a weekend.

Today's Story Highlights

News Industry Ad Study Knocked as 'Tripe'
A study that estimates Google last year raked in $4.7 billion from news
content has drawn widespread criticism. That $4.7 billion is a
conservative estimate, according to the News Media Alliance, the trade
group that released the study. That's because the estimate doesn't take
into account Google's advertising revenue from publishers and data
collected from news content.

Xbox Gamers Will Give a Damn About This 'Scarlett'
Microsoft whetted the appetite of power-hungry Xbox gamers at its E3
preview, with new details about its next-generation gaming console code-
named "Project Scarlett." Expected to arrive in time for the 2020
holidays, the new Xbox will have a custom-designed AMD processor based
on the latest Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA technology. Scarlett also will have
high-bandwidth GDDR6 memory and a next-gen SSD.

The 5 Most Pressing Problems With Drone Delivery
Amazon plans to begin drone deliveries within the next several months.
The drones have become far more capable, safer, and less noisy, but
there are five other problems that will need to be addressed before this
delivery method reaches its full potential. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm
looking forward to drone delivery. Still, there are several things that
will need to be addressed.

Dodging Facebook's 'Like' Trap for Small Businesses
Despite complaints about user privacy and the sharing of personal data,
Facebook remains the de facto social media powerhouse. It may have
started out as a place to connect with friends, but with 2.23 billion
users worldwide it isn't hard to see why it matters to marketers. For
the past decade Facebook has been a proven way for small businesses to
connect with customers -- at least in theory.

Reliving D-Day Through Augmented Reality
The National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, is honoring the
exploits and sacrifices of the Greatest Generation in a new augmented
reality exhibit "D-Day: Freedom from Above." This AR experience
commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings, which helped
liberate France and Western Europe from the Nazis and lead to the Allied
victory in the Second World War.
