It's Friday, February 08, 2019.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

So you play Fortnite? But you play it on your phone and on your PS4. You have to have two accounts because companies are the worst. Not for long -- Epic Games has a fix. Talking of fixes, Apple mends its messy FaceTime bug, and you can get your Taco Bell fix delivered, nationwide, courtesy of GrubHub.

Update your Macs and iThings ASAP.

Apple releases fix for the Group FaceTime bug

Apple releases fix for the Group FaceTime bug

Remember last week’s nasty FaceTime bug that could allow someone to hear or see you even if you didn’t pick up the call? Apple has released updates to fix the problem, and you should install them right away, especially since Google’s Project Zero team notes the updates also close other vulnerabilities that are already being exploited.

$699.

AMD Radeon VII review: Is 4K gaming enough?

The first gaming card built on a cutting-edge 7nm manufacturing process, the Radeon VII may give us a glimpse of what’s to come from AMD. With 16GB of super-fast HBM2 memory, the Radeon VII may have additional value to content creators, but for gaming it’s hard to justify at its current price.

Three phones, three notches.

There's the $299 G7 itself, plus two variations on the theme: the $199 G7 Play for shoppers on a tighter budget and the $249 G7 Power for people who need its ridiculous 5,000 mAh battery.  Each version of the G7 coming to the US packs one of Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 632 chipsets, albeit with different RAM allotments -- the Play has 2GB, the Power has 3GB and the top-tier G7 has 4GB.

GrubHub now delivers Taco Bell to couch potatoes nationwide

The only thing wrong with a Doritos Locos taco (besides the fact that it exists) is having to actually get up and go somewhere to get one. Consider that problem solved.

One profile is enough.

'Fortnite' account merging cleans up Sony's cross-platform mess

'Fortnite' account merging cleans up Sony's cross-platform mess

Epic Games has rolled out an account-merging process for Fortnite, allowing players to pick a primary profile that gobbles up all of the goodies from a second account -- perfect if you’ve split your playtime between a PS4 and, well, any other device. Head to the Fortnite merging page and sign into both accounts, assign one as the primary and combine 'em. After two weeks, all of the secondary profile's cosmetic items and V-Bucks will be transferred to the main account, and the non-primary account will be disabled. Amen.

The problem wasn't an isolated incident.

Carriers were selling your location data to bounty hunters for years

Carriers were selling your location data to bounty hunters for years

Remember the controversy surrounding mobile networks that were selling your location data to bounty hunters? A new report at Motherboard says the problem was far worse than the isolated incident it was initially made out to be. Rather than a couple of bad apples purchasing phone-tower information, more than 250 organizations had been accessing individual location data. In one instance, a company made a shocking 18,000 requests for location information in a single year.

FYI.

Apple is cracking down on apps that secretly record your screen

A recent report by TechCrunch and The App Analyst revealed that some major companies use an analytics tool that secretly record every swipe and tap you make within their applications. Now, Apple has started telling developers to remove that screen-recording code if they don't want their apps yanked from the App Store.

But wait, there's more...

2. Google Fiber to shut down in Louisville after ongoing service issues

4. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos accuses the National Enquirer of 'extortion and blackmail'

E-Ticketing Flaw Exposes Airline Passenger Data to Hackers
The e-ticketing systems of eight airlines, including Southwest Airlines
and Dutch carrier KLM, have a vulnerability that can expose passengers'
personal data, mobile security vendor Wandera has reported. They use
unencrypted links that hackers can intercept easily. The hackers then
can view and, in some cases, even change the victim's flight booking
details, or print their boarding passes.

Apple to Raise Barrier Against VR, AR Websites
The next upgrade of Apple's mobile operating system will come with an
annoying surprise for VR and AR developers. It reportedly will block Web
access to the accelerometer and gyroscope in Apple mobile devices by
default. That means users will have to grant permission to any Web apps
or sites that need those components to function, including those with VR
and AR components.

New Android Apps Come to the Aid of Hearing-Impaired
Google has announced two new Android applications designed to make life
easier for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. One of the apps, Live
Transcribe, turns live speech into real-time captions by using a phone's
microphone; the other, Sound Amplifier, improves a phone's sound output.
Live Transcribe, which works on Android 5.0 Lollipop and up, will be
available in 70 languages and dialects.

FTC v. Qualcomm: What Really Is Going On
I've been watching antitrust cases actively since the 1980s. I had to
study historical antitrust cases going back to Standard Oil and RCA, in
order to ensure compliance with a related consent decree When I worked
at IBM. Each of the other cases had one thing in common: Both of the
companies being charged were massively and obviously monopolies. There
were many questions.

Today's Story Highlights

Will the Sharing Economy Kill Personal Ownership?
The social networking era brought about a sharing economy. We share not
only our lives, but also everything from cars to clothes to chickens,
yes chickens. Services like Uber and Airbnb have ushered in a new era,
and industries rapidly have been embracing the change to determine how
to benefit from the shift in terms of future revenue. So, will we buy
things in the future?
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/85835.html

Zuckerberg's Take on Facebook's History Raises Eyebrows
Musing about Facebook's first 15 years, CEO Mark Zuckerberg positioned
it as a David confronting a Goliath composed of hierarchical
institutions. Facebook gives the masses a voice, he wrote. It brings
communities together and provides businesses with low-cost outreach.
Progress has been made in addressing the new social and ethical issues
raised, including protection of privacy, he said.

The State of Selling
What's the state of the selling profession today? In brief, it
fluctuates significantly based on economic circumstances and a company's
position in a category lifecycle. At the start of a category lifecycle,
when vendors really need people who can educate and explain what a
disruptive innovation actually does, salespeople are in demand and life
is very good indeed.

How Do You Build a Software Company?
How do you build a software company? There are certainly things you need
to do and not do on the way to building a successful software company,
but there are no recipes. In my career, I've seen firsthand some of the
ways that company builders succeed or fail, and to paraphrase Tolstoy,
happy companies are all alike; every unhappy company is unhappy in its
own way.

Wading Into the E-Book Publishing Waters
Writing and publishing an e-book can be a great way to develop your
brand, reach a broad audience, and potentially increase sales of your
products or services. "Publishing an e-book is part of building and
promoting your brand as an authority and thought leader," said Liz Mays,
director of sales and marketing for Pressbooks. "It can make you more
visible in your industry."

7 Timeless Tips for Small E-Commerce Businesses
From big companies to small-town mom-and-pop shops to "mompreneurs"
working from home, e-commerce is the key to keeping revenue streams
flowing and businesses afloat. In fact, e-commerce is really the only
way for you to ensure your business' longevity these days, especially if
you are a small retailer. Why? Because your customers don't always live
in your neighborhood.
