It's Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

Hey, good morning!

Morning, there! We’re talking well-intended New Year’s resolutions, the best selfie camera smartphones and the inside story on which company seems most likely to launch the ‘Netflix of games’.

It's hard to make excuses when there's a spin class in your spare room.

A Peloton bike motivated me more than any gym membership could

A Peloton bike motivated me more than any gym membership could
Peloton -- and its connected bike -- has become the poster child for a new era of on-demand exercise. Promising all the camaraderie and structured routines of a real-world spin class from the comfort of home. Peloton's workout library is extensive. Between the $2,245 bike and the $39-per-month subscription, though, it's an eye-watering investment. And the biggest question is can it turn reviews editor Jamie Rigg, famed gym dodger, into a spin-class convert?

"Seven-plus years of work... lost to the sands of time."

Machinima's YouTube gaming channel has effectively disappeared

Machinima's YouTube gaming channel has effectively disappeared
Machinima's YouTube gaming channel has been essentially scrubbed from the internet, as most videos on the site have been set to private and unplayable. Neither video creators nor users of the channel were notified. The last several years have been pretty eventful for Machinima: It was acquired in 2016 by Warner Digital Networks, which was in turn bought by AT&T in the summer of 2018. The channel was subsequently shuttled over to AT&T's Fullscreen, a service operated by Otter Media.

Samsung and Google's devices yield the best skin tones, detail, colors and more.

Camera-obsessed DxOMark has introduced scoring for front-facing smartphone cameras based on criteria like skin tone and color accuracy, sharpness, contrast, exposure and more. A number of cameras have already been tested, and the models on top, by a wide margin, are Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 and the Google Pixel 3, both with overall scores of 92.

Ready, set, go!

Who will be the first Netflix for video games?

Streaming detonated the film and television industries. The advent of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube Premium sounded the death knell for multi-billion dollar businesses, altered the living-room habits of millions of people and changed studio production structures permanently. Now, the technology and infrastructure necessary for consumer-scale seamless game-streaming is nearly here. NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Verizon and more major companies are making moves in this space, and they are almost ready to roll out their own Netflix-style gaming services as early as this year.

Is this the hotly-tipped revival of everyone's fave flip phone?

A newly-discovered Motorola patent may be our first look at Lenovo's rumoured RAZR foldable phone. Unearthed by 91 Mobiles, the filing contains several illustrations that seem to show a handset with a folding screen on the inside and a second, smaller screen on the outside.

But wait, there's more...

1. Drone giant DJI will take a huge loss due to employee fraud

2. Samsung updates older Gear watches with handy fitness tools

3. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez guest-stars in a 'Donkey Kong 64' Twitch stream

Today's Story Highlights

Jaguar I-Pace vs. Tesla Model 3: Which Is the Better Electric Car?
To suggest that electric cars are having a painful birth would be a
colossal understatement. Tesla clearly plowed this field and quickly
recognized that the lack of a charging infrastructure was going to be a
problem and, with reasonable effectiveness, dealt with it tactically.
However, those "tactical" chickens are about to come home to roost and
it probably won't be pretty.

The Evolution of Software Security Best Practices
Independent software vendors, along with Internet of Things and cloud
vendors, are involved in a market transformation that is making them
look more alike. The similarities are evident in the way they approach
software security initiatives, according to a report from Synopsys.
Synopsys has released its ninth annual Building Security in Maturity
Model, or BSIMM9.

Lenovo, Verizon to Reincarnate Motorola Razr as Foldable Smartphone: Report
The Motorola Razr -- once the hottest flip phone available -- is being
revived as a smartphone with a foldable screen, according to reports. It
will be offered exclusively through Verizon in the United States,
possibly in February, although the device is still being tested and the
launch date is not firm. Its starting price reportedly will be $1,500.

Court: Cops Can't Compel the Use of Body Parts to Unlock Phones
Authorities can't force people to unlock their biometrically secured
phones or other devices, ruled a federal judge in California. "The
Government may not compel or otherwise utilize fingers, thumbs, facial
recognition, optical/iris, or any other biometric feature to unlock
electronic devices," Magistrate Judge Kandis A. Westmore wrote.
Passcodes already are protected by the Fifth Amendment.

Rumors Roil Ahead of Next Month's Galaxy Unpacked Event
Samsung is expected to unveil its new lineup of flagship smartphones on
Feb. 20 at a Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco, and the rumor mill
has been operating on overtime. It's believed three new Galaxy S10
models will be announced at the event, as well as a folding phone.
Banners promoting Unpacked are using the phrase "Unfolding the Future"
as a tagline.

The Morning After: The iPhone SE returns

It's Monday, January 21, 2019.

Hey, good morning!

Good morning! Some of you might be enjoying the day off, but for others it’s just another Monday. Over the weekend, you might have missed out on the fact that Apple’s last small iPhone has made a reappearance with a clearance price tag, and Baywatch is back.

If you miss small phones, now's your chance.

iPhone SE goes back on sale as a $249 clearance item

iPhone SE goes back on sale as a $249 clearance item
Apple has quietly resumed selling the iPhone SE as a clearance item in the US, starting at $249 for a 32GB model (down from the original $349) and $299 for a 128GB version (a sharp drop from the initial $449). These aren't used models, either -- they're shiny new.

Launched in 2016, it’s effectively a shrunken iPhone 6s, including the A9 processor and 12-megapixel rear camera. It can still run the latest version of iOS, though, and in an age where most phones are huge, it’s one of the best small phones (still) out there.

So much Lego.

Chevy made a full-size Silverado truck out of Lego bricks

Chevy enlisted the help of students from Oxford Community School and Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary to create a one-for-one rendition of its 2019 Silverado 1500 LT Trailboss using Lego bricks -- 334,544 of them, to be precise. Just don’t expect the thing to start.

You can watch The Hoff save drowning people in HD.

Amazon adds remastered 'Baywatch' to Prime Video on January 20th

Sick of some people standing in the darkness, afraid to step into the light? No more: Baywatch is back. Well, the ‘90s original, at least, is headed to Amazon Prime, with the Hoff, Pamela Anderson and The Rest Of Them.

It's a logical step for a company dabbling in two-wheel EVs.

Ducati is working on an electric motorcycle

Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali told guests at a Spanish event that the "future is electric" and the company was "not far from starting production" on its own two-wheeled EV. Regional Managing Director Edouard Lotthé had hinted at plans in 2017, but this is about as official as it gets.

But wait, there's more...

1. German climate policy proposals could put an end to no-limit Autobahns

2. The best USB-C MacBook and laptop chargers

3. What we're buying: A terrible replacement baby monitor
