Generation Z is getting a lot of attention these days, as the cohort is expected to outpace millennials, and comprise 32 percent of the world's population. This powerful group of 7.7 billion consumers was born into a digital world. A much-reported claim is that Generation Z has an attention span of 8 seconds. It may seem that your website should mirror this lightning-quick attention span. [More...]

Cinnamon Mint for Debian Just as Tasty
The official release of version 3 of Linux Mint Debian Edition hit the download servers at summer's end, offering a subtle alternative to the distro's Ubuntu-based counterpart. Codenamed "Cindy," the new version of LMDE is based on Debian 9 Stretch and features the Cinnamon desktop environment. Its release creates an unusual situation in the world of Linux distro competition. Linux Mint developers seem to be in competition with themselves. [More...]

E-Scooters: On a Road to Nowhere
As summer winds die down here's hoping one of the season's most ridiculous and unnecessary fads goes with them. Bird and Lime e-scooters are just the latest twist on the foot-powered Razor Scooters that took America by storm in 2000. Unlike Razor, which introduced electric-power models back in 2003, Bird and Lime utilize a subscription model instead of ownership. [More...]

It's Saturday, September 08, 2018.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Welcome to your weekend! Before looking back at some highlights from the last few days, we’ll make sure NASA’s Kepler spacecraft is still going, and discuss the incredibly detailed version of NYC contained inside Sony’s new Spider-Man game.

We’re going to science the heck out of this.

Even though its fuel level is critically low and it's had its share of mechanical issues, the telescope is once again back to work collecting scientific data and looking for new exoplanets.

Yes, everyone is playing it.

New York shines in Sony’s new ‘Spider-Man’ game

The latest Spider-Man video game, developed by Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac, treats New York as a character. A place that can pose real, relatable problems for Peter Parker and his alter-ego. The studio has captured the look and, more importantly, the feelings that many people have about the city.

Now it's an Android exclusive.

Apple yanks Alex Jones' InfoWars app

Apple was not specific about what caused the move, merely referring to its guidelines about objectionable content in the store.

Tesla's new President takes control of automotive operations

Tesla wrapped up an interesting week -- CEO Elon Musk took a puff or two from a joint live on Joe Rogan's podcast, its recently-hired chief accounting officer quit after less than a month on the job and its HR chief announced she would not return from a leave of absence -- by announcing a round of executive promotions.

Somehow their designers didn’t think about that.

Today's Story Highlights

The Thrill Is Gone for Many Facebook Users
American consumers' attitudes toward Facebook appear to be cooling,
based on the results of a Pew Research Center survey. Forty-two percent
of the roughly 4,600 people who responded to the May poll said they had
taken a break of several weeks from checking the platform. "Facebook's
probably losing subscribers for a number of reasons," said Frost &
Sullivan's Michael Jude.

Nimble CEO Jon Ferrara: The Beauty of the CRM Beast
"The reality of relationships is that people buy from people they like,
know and trust," said Nimble CEO Jon Ferrara. "In the old days, before
we ever engaged in selling, we made a connection by looking at books,
things on the shelves, that kind of thing. Today, we're doing that more
and more electronically. Social is the perfect way to know more about
somebody, and that's actually your job."

Google Cracks Down on Tech-Support Scams
Google has announced new steps to combat the placement of fraudulent
tech support ads on its platform. The company will roll out a
verification program in the next few months to ensure that only
legitimate third-party tech support providers can place Google ads.
There are many legitimate providers that offer local or regional
services, or affordable support for out-of-warranty products.

6 Winning Shipping Strategies for E-Commerce SMBs
E-commerce continues to become more competitive as large companies like
Amazon, Target and Walmart soak up market share and customer attention.
Shipping window expectations have become shorter, and many online
retailers struggle to keep up, particularly SMBs. How can SMBs compete?
Not only is competing possible, there are many SMBs that have been
finding exceptional success.

A Model-Based Structure May Be Ideal in a Data-Driven World
Data science has become mission-critical to many enterprises. Companies
in the U.S. will spend billions on third-party audience data in 2018 and
even more on third-party solutions to use that data, as they move toward
becoming model-driven. It's not just a matter of harvesting data and
then crunching it; companies have to map data against their business
model in order to get the most out of it.
