MaritzCX has unveiled preconfigured B2B CX templates that monitor key financial indicators; metrics for customer touchpoints, including NPS and OSAT; business-specific outcomes; and overall account performance. Integrated into the MaritzCX Technology Platform, "the dashboards become a hub that aggregates all of the data being monitored," said Jennifer Rubin, MaritzCX associate practice leader. [More...]

Will MVNO Worries Complicate T-Mobile, Sprint Merger?
T-Mobile and Sprint have embarked on the road to a merger, creating some consternation among competitors. One concern that the combined company would have too much power as a mobile virtual network operator -- possibly controlling as much as 40 percent of the MVNO marketplace. The question is, should regulators require the new company to do something about this prior to approving the deal? [More...]

Today's Story Highlights

How Smart Should a Home Be?
One of the loudest buzzes in the Internet of Things is around smart
homes. Vendors have rushed to connect everything imaginable within a
house, including lights, appliances, entertainment systems, windows,
shades, door locks, ceiling fans, faucets, smoke detectors, security
systems, furniture -- basically anything with a battery or power cord
now can be connected.

New iOS Security Feature Ripe for Defeat
A new feature in iOS 11.4.1, which Apple released earlier this week, is
designed to protect against unwanted intrusions through the iPhone's
Lightning Port. However, the protection may be weak at best. The
feature, called "USB Restricted Mode," disables data transfer through
the Lightning Port after an hour of inactivity. In some cases, the phone
might not charge, according to Apple.

Polar Flow Fitness App Exposes Soldiers, Spies
A popular fitness app provided a convenient map for anyone interested in
shadowing government personnel who exercised in secret locations,
including intelligence agencies, military bases and airfields, nuclear
weapons storage sites, and embassies around the world. The fitness app,
Polar Flow, publicized more data about its users in a more accessible
way than comparable apps, investigators found.

Ribbons and Tabs Give OnlyOffice Suite a Fresh Look
Ascensio System SIA recently released its free office suite upgrade --
OnlyOffice Desktop Editors -- with a ribbon and tab interface plus
numerous updated features. The refresh makes version 5.1 a potential
alternative to Web versions of the Microsoft Office suite and Google
Docs for Linux users. The three-module set of OnlyOffice Desktop Editors
has an impressive collection of tools.

Next Up, Game Consoles: Is There Anything Google Can't Do Badly?
It's interesting to compare Google and Amazon -- two of the most
incredibly powerful companies in the world. Amazon brings out product
after product, with more successes than failures. Google largely buys
companies and then loses interest in what they do. Profit is built into
Amazon's retail efforts, while Google largely lives off selling users'
information and providing access to content.

Intel's 'CEO Problem' Is Its Board
Tech companies have been going through a lot of CEOs of late. HP had a
revolving door for CEOs with mistake after mistake. Yahoo's board kept
making choices that made things worse, Uber's CEO almost took the
company under, and CEOs fired for ethical lapses jumped a whopping 36
percent. When an employee misbehaves and has to be fired, it generally
is at least partially the fault of management.

It's Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Elon Musk has again inserted himself in the news cycle, and we’ve got an important update for Sonos owners. Plus, you’ll want to see this trailer for Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Extinction.

Hello HomePod.

AirPlay 2 makes Sonos the best audio option for most iPhone owners

After spending a week or so testing out a beta version of the software, Nathan Ingraham said that pretty much all Sonos owners who use iOS devices will get a lot out of this update.

Elon Musk said he will pay for home water filters in Flint

After Musk took a submarine to try and help rescue boys trapped in a cave in Thailand, people used social media to challenge the billionaire about doing something for Flint, MI. A 2014 switch in its water supply caused problems with lead poisoning, and residents continue to take issue with how local and state government agencies have handled the situation. Yesterday Musk responded, and said he would "fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels."

Graduation day.

Alphabet's Loon and Wing are now more than just 'projects'

Alphabet's Loon and Wing are now more than just 'projects'

Google’s parent company Alphabet says that Loon will maintain its mission of working with carriers worldwide to deliver internet to underserved areas. Wing will similarly continue building out its network of delivery UAVs, not to mention its air-traffic control system for drones. The only difference is now they’re full-fledged businesses complete with their own CEOs.

Mobile-gaming titans keep ripping off indies

Mobile-gaming titans keep ripping off indies

Voodoo is the No. 1 publisher on the App Store in terms of downloads with more than 150 million monthly active users and 300 million downloads in 2017. But in the eyes of many independent developers and their fans, Voodoo is a shady beast constantly hunting for scraps of game ideas that it can quickly transform into profit. And it’s not alone, it shares the market with companies like Gamenauts and Ketchapp.

Premium build quality, powerful hardware and solid battery life. What’s not to love about the new Razer Blade laptop? According to Devindra Hardawar, the only drawbacks left are its extra heft compared to other gaming laptops and a price that starts at $1,900 (our review unit carried a $2,600 sticker).

Magic Leap's mixed reality headset arrives this summer

During a developer chat on Twitch, Magic Leap revealed that the Creator Edition of its One mixed reality headset should be available sometime later this summer. The wearable will use NVIDIA's Tegra X2 system-on-a-chip, which is relatively powerful for a mobile device but still power-efficient enough that it won't need an ungainly pack. Additionally, it revealed a “strategic, exclusive” relationship with AT&T.

'Fortnite' season five adds a desert locale, golf carts and rifts

Epic Games has officially kicked off the battle-royale shooter's fifth season, offering a whole host of new locations, weapons, vehicles and mechanics. After teasing a historical theme at the end of season 4, today's update delivers viking ships, sandy outposts, ancient statues and plenty of skins to do them justice. Oh, and remember the cracks in the sky at the end of season 4? Epic has brought some of them down to earth in the form of Rifts -- mini portals that will let you leap all around the island.
