Today's Story Highlights

Data Storage, Privacy and Metaphysics: SC Weighs Arguments in MS Case
How far does the long arm of U.S. law enforcement extend when government
agencies seek electronically processed information? The U.S. Supreme
Court recently addressed that issue in an intriguing session covering
global electronic connectivity, the law, and the significance of
national borders. The discussion came during last month's oral arguments
in U.S. v. Microsoft .

The VR Experience: Challenges for a Growing Market
Virtual reality devices, including headsets and peripherals, offer
consumers and businesses new ways to experience and share immersive
content for entertainment, educational, social and other purposes. VR's
unique capability to promote user interaction through highly immersive
content provides untapped potential in terms of storytelling,
advertising, healthcare, business, travel and much more.

The Painfully Persistent B2B Sales and Marketing Divide
The historical sales and marketing team divide has been getting worse,
suggests a B2B report InsideView released this week. A disconnect
between sales and marketing can have a direct impact on companies' top
and bottom lines. The 995 United States-based sales and marketing
professionals who responded to the InsideView survey came from a cross-
section of industries throughout the country.

Amazon Courts Medicaid Recipients With Deep Prime Discount
Amazon this week expanded its discounted Prime membership program,
already available to EBT card holders, to include Medicaid recipients.
Eligible customers can become Prime members for $5.99 a month, less than
half the regular $12.99 monthly fee. The move -- another step in
Amazon's efforts to reach underserved economic communities -- ratchets
up its competition with Walmart.

Pega Enlists AI to Coach Sales Teams
Pegasystems has launched Pega Sales Coach, an AI-powered addition to
Pega Sales Automation. Pega Sales Automation targets business-to-
business and business-to-consumer companies. It can benefit firms with
100 employees as well as Fortune 500 enterprises with revenues of US$500
million and up, according to Chris Benedetto, Pega's director of product
marketing for sales automation.

Where Blockchain Tech Offers the Most Promise
"Blockchain" is on everyone's lips in the tech industry, with vendors
pushing it for everything from banking and finance to retail and
apparel. "We're going to continue to see tech vendors trying to push
blockchain as the solution to problems that may exist," said Rebecca
Wettemann, VP of research at Nucleus Research. However, it may not be "a
privacy-effective or cost-effective solution."
http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/85182.html

Facebook's Vulnerabilities Surface
Adam Smith famously referred to "the invisible hand" of the free market
in his landmark book The Wealth of Nations , and with that made himself
one of the very first political economists. Smith's observation was so
on point that most of us assume markets run through the agency of
individuals pursuing their enlightened self-interests, which helped
drive the evolution of CRM as a tracking tool.

It's Tuesday, March 13, 2018.

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

We have more news from SXSW, including a quick recap of Elon Musk’s sold-out talk. Elsewhere, Larry Page showed off an autonomous flying machine that could be the backbone of Uber-in-the-sky and Philips is ready to take its Hue lighting system outdoors.

Take a break.

Tesla temporarily paused Model 3 production in February

Tesla temporarily paused Model 3 production in February

According to Bloomberg, Tesla shut down the Model 3 production line at its Fremont plant between February 20th and 24th. The company said its plans include pauses to “improve automation and systemically address bottlenecks.” Whatever, as long as it helps speed up manufacturing -- a goal to build 5,000 cars per week has been pushed back to June.

Larry Page’s other flying car.

Meet Cora, an electric, autonomous air taxi

Meet Cora, an electric, autonomous air taxi

Google co-founder Larry Page’s Kitty Hawk company is working on at least two aircraft projects, the Flyer and this one, Cora. It’s an all-electric vehicle capable of VTOL but flies with a single propellor like any other plane. It’s also autonomous. The plan is not to sell these, but to offer access, like a ridesharing service that picks up passengers on demand. The company is testing these in New Zealand now, but it didn’t announce when the service would be open for business.

Wait, you can do that?

FCC accuses startup of launching satellites without permission

The FCC accused startup Swarm Technologies of launching four of its tiny SpaceBEE (Basic Electronic Elements) communication cubesats without obtaining the necessary approvals.

The best business laptop in the… uh, business.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon review (2018)

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon has everything you'd want in a business ultraportable. You'll just have to pay a bit extra to get the newest features like HDR.

But wait, there's more...

1. What's on TV: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi,' 'Burnout Paradise'

2. Apple buys Texture, the 'Netflix of magazine plans'

3. SXSW 2018: Breaking down Elon Musk's surprise, sold-out talk

4. I built a vibrator at SXSW 2018

5. 'Slingshot' malware attacks via routers

One of the most interesting parts of Nvidia's GPU Technology Conference, Inception, allows small focused startups to pitch their ideas in a Shark Tank-like atmosphere to compete for a significant cash prize. Two of the more compelling solutions were presented by companies run by women this year. White House Video Game Violence Discussion Fails to Move the Needle
President Donald Trump on Thursday met behind closed doors with several
top video game industry executives, association representatives,
politicians and others to discuss video game violence in the aftermath
of the fatal shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland,
Florida, last month. Among the scheduled attendees were Strauss Zelnick,
CEO of TakeTwo Interactive Software.

Galaxy S9 and S9+ May Shine Brightest as S6, S7 Replacement
Samsung's new Galaxy S9 and S9+ handsets claimed the spotlight on
Thursday as the first reviews of the smartphones surfaced. The general
consensus appears to be that these new models successfully built on past
designs, yet fell short in numerous areas. The new phones are good --
but anyone expecting revolutionary functionality may be disappointed.
